Understanding how to time your move is an important factor in planning your move successfully. The first thing to know is that you should contact Sonigo and request a volume estimate and a quote around 4-6 months before you plan to move. Once you have a quote in your hand you can begin to make a plan decide which type of shipment is right for you and how to manage the moving process, and in particular how to deal with the time that you will be with out your personal items. In general, FCL or exclusive container shipment are faster and more predictable in terms of timing that LCL or Partial container shipments. Please watch our webinar to understand why this is so. The other main factor that affects the timing of your shipment is your location. For instance, the West Coast of the USA takes about 8 weeks on the water whereas from NYC, it is only 4 weeks on the water. Make sure to ask your Sonigo representative what the expected transit time is from your location. Shared container shipments usually take about 1-2 months longer than exclusive container shipment so keep this in mind when make your moving plan.
NOTE: In post-Corona times, we are see serious and unpredictable delays. These delay often involve extra charges. The worst delays have been on the west coast of North America but they are affecting all locations so please be aware of this.
