Hi David.
I wanted to take a moment to express my gratitude for an exceptional level of service provided to us throughout our move from Houston, TX USA to Haifa, Israel.
The entire process was seamless, flawless and almost down to the penny as far as the projected cost.
We found nothing but helpful and professional people starting from the packers through the consolidators and the crew that unloaded the container in Haifa et all.
It was a pleasure working with your organization and you can count on us for future business and recommendations.
All the best,

Dear Joe and Ben,
Now that we are back into our house and almost finished settling into Oxford, we just want to say what a wonderful job you did in relocating us from Jerusalem. From the very start of the process to the very end you were careful, thorough, efficient, timely, reliable, and even cost-effective. You were also a great team to work with.
In short, you are the true professionals. Sincere congratulations!

I would like to thank you for all your help and your responsiveness during this whole process. You (with a bit of help from above) came through at every stage in the process and even when things didnt go right you stayed in touch to update us on the situation. I appreciate your help and hard work and will certainly give my recommendation to anyone who asks.

Miriam,
I strongly recommend working with Shmuel Mantinband at Sonigo. It almost does not matter who the party is in the US as they are all great on that end, most important is the shipper on the Israel end. Need to work with someone who is honest and can handle the difficulties in customs. Shmuel is excellent. I wish I would have used him for my first shipment.

Dear Ed and Jim:
You both made a very stressful time so much easier for me. Your men were fabulous. They were respectful, pleasant, clean and meticulous. They helped me relax and just enjoy the fact that they knew what they were doing. They wrapped everything as if it were their personal property. They came on time and finished quickly and did a walk thru with me. I absolutely want to be a reference for both of you. Your detailed follow up with me before the move was critical and I was impressed with the quick responses I received to my emails and phone calls.
I can't tell you how blessed I felt having met you Ed and having you use University. I have already given out your card to one of my friends and will give all your information to others. I will put you on the Israeli lists -
Ed, I look forward to meeting you. Will follow up with you next week. I have my Teudat Oleh and my Teudat Zehut Number - NBN is mailing me the physical ID since I could not get to Jerusalem to pick it up.
Let me know if I owe you more money or may be getting a refund.
I already opened up a bank account by myself and went to the Post Office to get my medical plan by myself. Still have allot to go and hopefully will have an apartment very soon. Working hard on it.
God's blessings to both of you.

Hi Shmuel & Noam,
Just to let you know that the lift was delivered successfully yesterday. Although the container arrived a little later than expected (10:30am, was expected between 8am and 10am), everything went very well through the day. Victor and his crew worked very well, they were a nice set of people, very courteous, and the whole job was completed by 5pm, with all boxes accounted for.
Many thanks for an excellent job.

I had a great experience moving a relatively small shipment (70-ish boxes, no furniture) from NYC to Jerusalem this past September. I used Sonigo. I didn't work with Shmuel but with Ed. There were a few hiccups, but mainly they had to do with my mislabeling some boxes; they were cool, calm, and professional throughout. The movers themselves were also courteous and careful.
Recommended them to other satisfied users as well.

you can pack if you want to but it's recommended to allow the the shippers to pack the breakables. On the other hand we used Sonigo, & they include packing in the price ( B"H) because if we had packed everything ourselves we would have missed the lift. (201)535- 4703 or sonigo.com. we dealt mostly with Shmuel from the Israel office & were very pleased.
in terms of food; you can pretty much find everything you need here (except white tuna) including many American label but it pays to bring what you already have in the house especially when you can buy on sale (including a case of toilet paper if it's 1000/sheets/roll & paper towel- they run out very quickly here)& foods or items that you truly love. then you'll have time to shop around & experiment with what's here. it's also cheaper there so if you're already paying for a full lift then why not? If you decide not to do a full lift then don't waste the space. eventually you'll get used to what's what & these things won't be important but it helps in the beginning.

Packing depends partly on your shipper and partly on what you are sending. Most shippers insurance (for breakage, etc) requires the shipper to pack (or accept shipment from a manufacturer) to ensure proper packing to protect their liability. Ditto for stuff like nice furniture and glass, artwork etc. that you want insured for scratches and damage. Stuff like books, clothes and the kids toys, you can pack.
IMHO, its worth it for you to do what you can, for 2 reasons. 1. so you use box sizes that someone in your family can move. If they pack you they use what is convenient for them, which is huge, heavy boxes that really do not work for small apartments in Israel. And 2. so you can label what is in each box, both for insurance and for getting it to the right place at the other end. (The co that picked us up in NY did not do a physical inventorylike they were supposed to, so ours was all we had for insurance.)
We were very happy with Shmuel Mantenband (sorry if I spelled it wrong) at Soningo. BUT do not let Tober pack you up in NY/NJ. He has other packers he perfers, but after all of our waiting, when we finally shipped we were under a time pressure and had to take who was available. Tober created all kinds of problems BUT Shmuel took care of US, personally, and even came all the way to Sfat to see the lift arrive and confirm the details, and then act accordingly. I would definitely use him again, just not Tober.
The team he sent to unpack us were the best ever! and they all went to the Ari's mikvah after a LONG day of unloading. Very little was actually broken and they were all very personable, interesting people.
As I recall, you can send anything except flammables, explosives and oils/oil based paints/products. The containers can get hot inside-think of the inside of a sealed car in the summer--if you ship in the summer (or freeze in the winter). Our candles were fine, and our food was fine. Tuna for sure was fine (Moish wished he'd sent more), cereal was fine, but we were told by other olim to double ziplock it, as there are rats and smaller things on the ships and not every container is a perfect seal.
My oatmeal and other stuff was fine in ziplocks inside a black contractor bag twisted and folded over inside the box. I also taped most of my boxes on the end seams as well, as they were packed for extra long time. We also had LOTS of books that we wanted inventories more than just "30 books", so we had all of that done before they arrived.

It occurred to me that we never officially thanked you at Sonigo for the terrific job you did in getting our lift here and delivered to our door. I have been recommending Sonigo to anyone who asked my advise about lifts.
I just had a frightening thought: by the time we get everything unpacked, it will probably be time to move again (from our rental place, G-d willing, to the dirah we will buy.) Does Sonigo operate internally in Israel the same way you do from the US to here?

Dear Ed,
Just wanted to let you know that the table and chairs came this afternoon. The delivery men were prompt, polite and very helpful. They took care of things efficiently and cleaned up after themselves without our having to ask. Very nice service!
We also appreciate your help through this. It was far from a routine shipping assignment and you managed to keep your patience and follow through admirably! Thank you!
There was a problem with damage to the table. (How could there not be, after all this?) However, I believe that it is repairable. The delivery men said they would take care of reporting it. If you could please follow up and make sure that happens, I would appreciate it.
Attached are 2 photos showing the scratch. The underside of the table (the painted side) was scratched. Because it is glass, the light shines right through the scratch making it pretty noticeable. I have sent these photos in a small format so they don't fill up your mailbox. If you need a larger, better quality photo, let me know and I will send full size.
Thank you again,

I don't remember what I said, but it was sincere. You and Sonigo were wonderful, helpful and professional. I can't imagine anyone ever has a perfectly uneventful shipping experience, so I just chalk it up to "that's life".
We've moved into an apartment we bought before Rosh Hashana, and I only wish I had had Sonigo for this move too. My wife says this was the hardest move we've ever done (we've moved 9 times in 12 years, including aliyah).

I would like to commend you and especially Shmuel Mantinband in Ashdod for the incredible service he gave doing my move in November, 2006.
Because I had never done an overseas move and the timing was rushed, I needed alot of hand holding and Shmuel never let me down. He often went beyond the need and made the transition very smooth. His communication skills were excellent and he was always responsive and available if I had a question.
I would suggest you financially reward him - he is a treasure. And I was very pleased with the work of Sonigo.

I highly recommend Sonigo Shippers. I recently sent a shipment from the US. Dealing with Shmuel from Sonigo was pleasant and easy. Everything - from explaining what the costs would be (and they weren't higher than estimated), arranging the shippers to pack and pick up things in the US, insuring the goods, dealing with Customs in Israel, and finally delivery of the goods to our home - went smoothly and within the timeframe promised.
Shmuel is a real mensch! I suggest you give him a call.

We picked up our oven racks on Wednesday.
Your office is quite impressive. The service was speedy. We are so happy to have the racks. They are the exact size of the one I had handy to size them with. So they should make our next Pesach perfect.
A friend was with us for the tiyul. He has been in Israel for 40 years. And he was very impressed with your operation. That says a lot to me. Very few things really impress him any more. He has been here for so long.
He expected it would take between one hour or two hours to get them.
So you have a significant supporter, even though he never shipped anything. You didn't meet him the day we moved from Eli to Be'er Sheva, but he was here with us while the movers did their unloading. He was responsible for the kosher pizza that was ordered. We didn't know where a second one was, when our normal pizzaria was closed for unknown reasons.
If there is anything you need to know about Be'er Sheva, he knows it. (He is a professor at Ben Gurion U. Sometimes Tamar Yonah interviews him on her radio show when there is a new scientific item to discuss.)
Again, thank you very much for bringing these over for us. Spectacular service.

the first thing i looked for was references!!!
i am happy to say that the shippers we used we fantastic from beginning to end(sonigo) i didn't know one thing about shipping i have never moved with a company before and i found shmuel very helpful and understanding to all my questions whether silly or not.
one thing you should remember to ask the shipper no matter who you decide to go with is how long will it take to get here and plan accordingly (by bringing things with you that you will need in the mean time, or send it earlier enough so that when you come it is already in customs.)
also there is another group to join as well as nbn tachlis@shamesh.org tachlis@shamesh.org these are veteran olim, some have been here for over 5 years and know the ends and outs of israel, how to get somewhere, where to buy the best things etc etc.
